Can you guess if these political quotes came from a Malaysian politician… or comedian?

Our politicians say the darndest things sometimes. At times, it feels like there’s no limit to the things that come out of their mouths, which has basically left most of us with mixed feelings; at this point, should we feel frustrated, confused, or even… amused?

*sigh*. Meme made with Imgflip.

‘Cause sometimes it feels like some of the things that these politicians say seem more like sarcasm, or a set-up for an elaborate “joke” gone bad, which really got us thinking: Can people actually tell the difference between things our politicians have actually said, and a legit joke told by comedians with a penchant for the political?

Well, there’s only one way to find out… We’re gonna put your judging skills to the test, to see whether Malaysians are truly able to distinguish actual political quotes from the lulz. Don’t go and curi-curi Google the answers, k?

Quote 1: Who made this suggestion to “live on the moon?”

Quote 2: Who made this controversial statement?

Quote 3: Who had this high tolerance for mistakes?

Quote 4: Who had this to say about war zones?

Quote 5: Who shared this opinion on “choosing to be refugees?”

Quote 6: Who was the avid football fan?

Quote 7: Who wanted justice for drunk drivers?

Quote 8: Who had this to say about a certain German dictator?

Quote 9: Who was the one really feeling their popularity?

Quote 10: Who said they weren’t wrong, but not right either?

Which came first? The politician or the political jokes?

With more and more of our politicians landing themselves in hot water for their controversial, and sometimes straight-up mind-boggling statements, it’s become way harder for us to distinguish the comedic satire from the real thing, since we really don’t know what they might end up saying next.

But at the end of the day, it can be pretty bittersweet because it also means that there’s going to be more material for our home-grown comedians to poke fun at; which then begs the question: Which inspired which?

So, how did you fare? Let us know by answering our poll below!
