Strategic Communications Leader and Author Eileen Lui Launches Deeply Personal Memoir, Battling The Three Big Bad Cs

Petaling Jaya, 4 October 2026 – Communications strategist, writer, and long-term Myanmar community advocate Eileen Lui announces the release of her poignant new memoir, Battling The Three Big Bad Cs. The book offers a raw and intimate account of navigating unimaginable loss when personal certainty and global systems collapse all at once, weaving together the heavy realities of COVID-19, Myanmar’s military coup, and rare cancer.

Lui is an established writer best known for her compelling short story “The Chewing Gum Boy,” an extract of which was featured in a Cambridge literature examination. Having called Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries home for over a decade, she built marketing communications for City Holdings Limited and co-founded youth livelihood initiatives such as SoyAi, which won the ASEAN Impact Challenge in 2017. Following her deep-rooted connections to the region, she now resides in Malaysia, navigating life without her better half.

The memoir serves as a guidepost for those grappling with similar darkness. Lui notes, “This book is for the Myanmar diaspora for those who carry Myanmar in their hearts, wherever they are. This book is for those battling cancer inside a system that prioritises ‘defensive medicine’. It’s for anyone who has suffered a great loss and doesn’t have a clean answer for grief or suicide.”

Continuing a shared lifetime of community involvement, Lui is hosting an upcoming book launch and fundraising event on October 4, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Niju Co-Working Space SS2, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The event will feature a special guest appearance by prominent public figure Mahi Ramakrishnan, a Malaysia-based forced migration specialist, poet, and award-winning filmmaker who will lead a special sharing session on the Myanmar coup together with Sithu Than Hlaing, an ex-musician before the Myanmar coup who is now a refugee here. The afternoon will also include welcoming remarks, a reading by the author, and a panel discussion titled The Heartbreaking Path of Grief with Dr Low Ley Hian, Head of Business Development, CRMY Technologies Sdn Bhd. Dr Low brings the perspective of a caregiver to the conversation, someone who has walked alongside a loved one through cancer.

All members of the public, media representatives, and the local rakyat are warmly invited to come along, bring a friend, and support a good cause. In a powerful demonstration of solidarity and charity, 100% of the day’s sales proceeds will be donated directly to two vital causes. Half of the proceeds will support Better Burma, an organization providing critical humanitarian aid to people affected by war and natural disasters in the country, while the other half will go to Cancer Research Malaysia to help drive future breakthroughs for rare thymic carcinoma.
