Boyfriend vs Grab Rider: Who’s better at buying groceries?

Sometimes you just don’t have time to get groceries – maybe you’re stuck at work or just feeling under the weather. But thankfully, you have your trusty partner who’ll never let you down, so you give them a list of things to buy aaaaaaaaaand… they mess it up. So instead of saving time, you’ll not only have to go do the groceries yourself, but also be stuck with a bunch of wrong items.

But with GrabMart, you’ll never have to worry about a wrong order again! GrabMart is part of the Grab superapp that not only delivers groceries from stores like Lotus’s and Jaya Grocer right to your doorstep; but also delivers in many essential categories like Health & Beauty, Cakes & Pastries, Pet Care, and Fruits.

As a bonus, you can also get 10 Free Delivery vouchers for GrabMart with GrabUnlimited. Not just that, Grab will get your groceries better, faster, and more correctly than your boyfriend or girlfriend…

… in theory at least. So with our friends at Grab, we put that theory to the test to see if GrabMart can beat Dee, our video producer, at grocery shopping.

Dee’s girlfriend gave us a list of 20 grocery items from Lotus’s

Focus Dee! There’s not mush-room for errors here.

We hate to disappoint all the ladies on our TikTok but, yes, Dee has a girlfriend. We asked her to send us 20 items she needed from Lotus’s, namely:

Yer… Who still saves their boyfriend’s name as “My Baby”?

Lepas tu, we made the same order on GrabMart.

They also started at the same time and at the same Lotus’s supermarket outlet in Paradigm Mall. They were judged based on:

  • Accuracy – Who bought the right items
  • Price – Who spent less money
  • Timeliness – Who returned with the groceries sooner

Dee’s girlfriend might think he’s the perfect Bollywood boyfriend, but it’s a good thing she wasn’t there to see him do the grocery shopping, because…

Dee can’t tell the difference between broccoli and cauliflower 🤦‍♀️

Never seen green before in his life.

Even though Dee tried his best, he only got 9 out of the 20 items correct. Granted, a few of the items weren’t available, but 6 of the items he bought were totally wrong, and he even missed out on 2 items which were actually in stock (baby spinach and sweet potato leaves).

Of the 6 wrong items, the most mind-blowing ones were him getting cauliflower instead of broccoli

…buying bayam merah instead of daun pegaga

…and grabbing leek instead of daun kucai.

It’s quite amazing since he actually Googled daun pegaga and daun kucai to see what they look like. As for the cauliflower and broccoli… WE CAN’T EVEN. And yea, he missed out on the baby spinach and sweet potato leaves despite them being right there on the shelves.

To be fair, they were labeled as Pucuk Keledek but HE COULD HAVE CALLED HIS BABY GIRL TO CHECK

To top it all off, Dee didn’t realize he needed to timbang the sayur before paying for them, so he had to leave the trolley at the counter and do the walk of shame back to the produce aisle.

We managed to catch the exact moment the akak cashier asked Dee to timbang the sayur.

The Grab rider, on the other hand, got everything on the list exactly right… other than the items that weren’t in stock. On top of that, the rider arrived at our office 25 minutes earlier than Dee.

Mission complete.

Also, there also wasn’t too much of a difference in price. Dee spent RM50 for the groceries and RM2 for parking, while the total bill from GrabMart was RM52.90 after using a free delivery voucher and an additional RM5 new customer voucher for Lotus’s.

This doesn’t include the cost of all the wrong items Dee bought, the 2 available items he missed out (which would have added another RM12.79 to Dee’s bill), and the cost of going out and buying the right ones. So when you factor that in, GrabMart pretty much wins hands down.

But convenience and accuracy isn’t all GrabMart has to offer…

GrabUnlimited gives you lots of free delivery vouchers for GrabMart

Like we mentioned above, Grab has a subscription service called GrabUnlimited where you can immediately get 10 Free Delivery vouchers (up to RM3 off with a minimum RM40 spent) on GrabMart. It’s not just groceries too. GrabMart also provides shopping deliveries for other categories and shops such as:

  • Groceries – Jaya Grocer, Lotus’s, HeroMarket, Fresh Hub, Adult Food & Beverage
  • Health & Beauty – Guardian, Watsons, Caring Pharmacy, Alpro Pharmacy, Health Lane
  • Cakes & Pastries – Secret Recipe, Inside Scoop, Baskin Robbins, Lavender, King’s Bakery
  • Pet Care – Pet Lovers Centre, The Pet Safari, Daco Petsmart, Mr Pet Store, One Stop Petz Centre

So yeah, whether it’s because your partner can’t tell the difference between cauliflower and broccoli or because you just want the convenience, getting your essentials from GrabMart with a GrabUnlimited subscription will be like kacang putih (which Dee will likely not find also). Check out GrabMart now for all your needs, from groceries to pet care and more!
