McDonalds plans to open 36 outlets in Sabah by 2030

Right now, Sabah has 22 McDonald’s, but the company’s got big plans – 36 outlets across the state by 2030! That means more nuggets, more sundaes, and more jobs. In fact, McDonald’s already employs 800 local staff, and this expansion is going to create more job opportunities, reach new areas, and keep up with community-focused initiatives in the state. They’re encouraging young Sabahans to consider careers with them, offering local employment and skills training.

For locals, it’s more than just a new place to get some makan – it’s a sign of economic growth, increased community support, and better accessibility to global brands.

Giving back, the McDonald’s way

McDonald’s Malaysia isn’t just here for business – they’re giving back too! At the launch, they donated RM100,000 in business zakat to help Sabah’s underprivileged communities and gave out 1,300 Back-to-School Packs to kids in need. Since 2017, this initiative has helped over 6,000 Sabahan students.

McDonald's giving back to the local community

And here’s the real heart-warmer: they set up Sabah’s very first and Malaysia’s fourth Ronald McDonald House (RHMC) at the Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital (HWKKS), providing temporary housing for nearly 100 families. Plus, RMHC Malaysia is also donating a RM100,000 medical grant to support essential treatments and equipment at the hospital, ensuring that children in need get the best care possible.

This new McDonald’s isn’t just about fast food – it’s about building up the community, creating jobs, and making a positive impact. So, if you’re in Tuaran, swing by the new Drive-Thru, grab a burger and know you’re not just grabbing a burger; you’re part of a movement that’s helping Sabah grow stronger.
