OPPO Reno 12 series launches in Malaysia with battery and AI improvements

The OPPO Reno 12 series – the Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro – are officially available in Malaysia.

The Reno 12 Pro (12GB + 512GB) retails at RM2,599 while the Reno 12 (12GB + 512GB) is priced at RM2,199; although there is an ongoing promotion which includes gifts, rebates, and a guaranteed trade-in value.

Here’s what you can expect with the OPPO Reno 12 series.

Generative AI features for photography and productivity

OPPO has joined Google, Microsoft, MediaTek, Qualcomm and other partners to accelerate the arrival of a new generation of AI Phones.

Both the OPPO Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro are equipped with a Sony LYT-600 sensor featuring full-pixel omnidirectional autofocus and OIS. For portrait lovers, there’s also a Portrait Mode with up to 2x zoom. 4K video at 30fps is also available on both the rear and front-facing cameras for stunning high-definition video at four times the resolution of 1080p video.

Additionally, the Reno 12 Pro is armed with a 50MP Telephoto Portrait Camera offering up to 2x optical zoom, 50MP Selfie Camera with autofocus, and new AI Portrait Retouching effects that allow for real-time adjustments to facial features.

Both phones will also receive a suite of AI photography tools such as a newly-updated AI Eraser, AI Clear Face, and AI Best Face which can automagically reopen the eyes of that one person who blinks in group shots.

Alongside photo enhancements, Reno12 and Reno12 Pro also tap into the power of AI to bring added efficiency and creativity. Built on the Google Gemini large language model (LLM), AI Toolbox recommends AI features based on your screen’s contents, such as quick social media content generation or summaries for lengthy articles.

In the Recording app, the AI Recording Summary tool intelligently extracts text summaries from a voice record and organize them into notes, with formatting capabilities such as to-do lists, times, and locations.

Meanwhile, AI Studio creates digital avatars or artistic portrait styles from just one single photo, reimagining anyone in the photo as cowboys, stars in a cyberpunk manga, or many other styles.

The OPPO Reno12 and Reno12 Pro are the first phones to feature the custom 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy For Reno mobile platform, which was co-developed by MediaTek and OPPO to deliver exceptional power efficiency,

Combined with OPPO’s 80W SUPERVOOC charging and a 5,000mAh battery you should be ensured all-day battery – perhaps even more.

By using AI models to analyze your current usage, the Trinity Engine within ColorOS brings performance enhancements such as:

• CPU-Vita engine to precisely allocate SoC resources for lower power consumption while ensuring system stability and smoothness.
• RAM-Vita engine to enhance RAM utilisation to accelerate app launch speeds and switches, and convert 12GB of storage into temporary RAM if needed.
• ROM-Vita engine for lossless compression on infrequently used apps, and manages duplicate files to reduce unnecessary storage use.

Connectivity should also improve with the latest generation of OPPO’s proprietary AI LinkBoost technology.

Consisting of nine individual antennas arranged in a 360° surround architecture, AI LinkBoost is able to boost signal reception and optimize network selection using a system-level AI model. This includes improving network latency in areas with weak signal or busy networks, enhancing seamless switch between WiFi and cellular network, and accelerating signal recovery speeds when exiting elevators or basements.

For situations like flying, subway commuting, or mountain hiking where mobile network coverage is unavailable, OPPO has introduced BeaconLink.. Using proprietary communications protocols, BeaconLink boosts Bluetooth transmission to enable communications at a distance of up to 200 meters, making it possible to place one-to-one voice calls in emergency situations without the need for network coverage.

Of course, the phone is designed with the future in mind

As to be expected, the Reno 12 series features a signature eye-catching finish on the back panel, this time inspired by the space age. The rear glass panel of both models is crafted with OPPO’s Fluid Ripple Texture, creating a “3D-like sensation of rippling water cascading across a pond”.

In addition to the new silver look, Matte Brown on the Reno 12 features a rich cocoa hue in a fingerprint-free finish. On Reno12 Pro, Space Brown features a two-tone matte-gloss design with two halves naturally separated by a metallic ribbon running horizontally across the back of the phone.

On the front end, the Reno 12 uses Gorilla Glass 7i while the Reno 12 Pro features Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which is usually found on ultra-flagship level phones. Added to the 6.7-inch, 120Hz AMOLED display on both phones is OPPO’s Splash Touch technology, that allows taps and swipes with wet hands.

Meanwhile, only on the Reno 12 Pro, is the Infinite View Screen which OPPO says is one of the most advanced screen technologies currently available on any smartphone. The screen combines the aesthetics of a curved screen with the grip of a flat screen, providing fully immersive visuals while significantly reducing the number of accidental touches that you get on curved-screen phones.

To celebrate the launch, OPPO will host a five-day roadshow at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Centre Court from 3 July to 7 July, visitors can get hands-on with the latest Reno 12 series.
