Prosperity Treasure Pot (Poon Choi) at Oversea Restaurant
Yes, our camera had the first taste 🙂 Prices are RM838++ for 6-8 pax and RM1,188++ for 8-10 pax

We were invited to their 1Utama outlet to try these specials out, and our tastebuds were extra ong for the experience. Starting out with the Prosperity Treasure Pot (or Poon Choi), this CNY favorite is indulgence made to be shared. You’ll be greeted with a melting pot of premium ingredients such as Cantonese roast duck, crispy pork belly, and premium dried seafoods such as whole abalone and Japanese dried scallops. Of course, the broth that’s made from simmering all this ingredients is so good that it actually finished before we were done with the ingredients!

Hong Kong Style Claypot Waxed Meat Rice (Lap Mei Fan) from Oversea Restaurant
We used an image provided by Oversea Restaurant because our dish was already mixed. Prices are RM138++ for 6 pax * RM168++ for 10 pax

Next is the Hong Kong Style Claypot Waxed Meat Rice (RM138 for 6 pax, RM168 for 10 pax) another CNY staple. The glutinous rice was fragrant from the high-quality cured meat (lap cheong, liver sausages, and wax duck) and the cucumbers provided a fresh crunch to clean the palate before the next bit. At first, we thought it was odd having cucumbers in this dish – we’ve never seen it served with before – but it works!

Yee Sang from Oversea Restaurant
Note the dragonfruit sauce at the top. Prices start from RM78++

Lastly, we have the quintessential dish that no Malaysian Chinese New Celebration is complete without: Yee Sang. Except, Oversea Restaurant has put their own twists with five different types of Yee Sang. We had their original Oversea Fabulous Fruity Yee Sang with Red Dragon Fruit Sauce. Apparently, this is their most popular variation, and we can see why. The fruits and dragon fruit sauce cuts the sweetness of the usual Yee Sang ingredients, resulting in a fresher taste as a whole.

Also, did you know Yee Sang was invented in Seremban?

We were also given a range of confectionaries (RM19.90 – RM59.90) to bring home, but the office finished them before we could try them out. But perhaps that itself is a testament to how good they were. Of notable interest are the Butter Cookies, Pineapple tarts, and the Pineapple Yoghurt Cookies, all in super nice packaging that makes a good gift when visiting or for sharing when you have guests over or you can keep them all to yourself and munch of them while watching TV.

The Chinese New Year menu is available at all Oversea Restaurants in Imbi, Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, Ipoh, Genting Skyplaza, and 1Utama, but only up til February 24th 2024. Take-away and delivery is available, and a pre-order of 3 days in advance is required so, since it’s the Year of the Dragon, don’t drag…on it and make a reservation now!
