We visited Sunway Sanctuary a year after they opened! Here’s what it’s like.

When it comes to life after retirement, some older folks may envision themselves being taken care of by their children when they retire. However, a growing number of families have opted instead for senior living homes- especially in the event where their older family members are sick and require special medical attention. And that’s where places like Sunway Sanctuary come in!

Last week, Sunway Sanctuary invited us to join them in celebrating their first anniversary. And while we were there, they gave us a tour of the place, which strategically located right next to Sunway Medical Centre– to explore their facilities and check out their rooms for ourselves.

So, here’s what we found most interesting about Sunway Sanctuary during our visit there…

Sunway Sanctuary offers two types of stays: Short Stays and Long Stays

For their packages, Sunway Sanctuary offers both an Independent Living option (from RM8.8k/month) with general hospitality services (housekeeping, daily breakfast, activities etc.), and an Assisted Living option (from RM9.6k/month) whereby residents will have additional 24/7 care and assistance.

But sometimes, we may want to test something out before committing to it long-term. As such, Sunway Sanctuary also offers short stays with their “Care Stay Package” for individual seniors who require assistance. This program provides a safe and engaging environment while their families travel, with customizable stays starting at a minimum of 2 nights from RM1,200+. Meals are included, and the package focuses on personalized care, social interaction, and healthcare support.

For the independent seniors who wish to experience an active and engaging lifestyle in their golden years, Sunway Sanctuary offers the “Stay & Dine Package” trial stay. Ranging from a 3D2N stay to an 8D7N stay, prices start at RM1.2k and go up to RM6.1k, depending on the duration and type of room chosen. Guests can select from a variety of rooms, including the deluxe studio, executive studio, one-bedroom deluxe, and premium suite, each accommodating up to 2 people.

The best part is that these short stays are open to the general public aged 55 years and above, where those looking for a little staycation can also opt to stay at Sunway Sanctuary instead of getting a hotel room elsewhere. They have a karaoke room, a heated saltwater pool, and even a CLUBHOUSE

To further enhance the experience at their residence, Sunway Sanctuary provides residents with access to amenities such as their karaoke room, fully-equipped gym, heated saltwater pool, and more. They’ve also newly introduced their Sanctuary Club, which is a dynamic clubhouse concept designed to foster community, health, and lifelong learning. The Sanctuary Club provides a comprehensive array of activities- including fitness classes, social activities, educational workshops, and wellness programmes.

In this programme, there are three membership tiers: Bronze, Silver, and Gold – which accommodates the diverse needs and preferences of active seniors. Here’s a summary of what each tier contains:

• Bronze Tier (RM1,200/month): Access to the library and gym/billiard room, weekly wellness offerings, daily morning physical and games twice a week, personal training and movie screenings once a month.
• Silver Tier (RM2,000/month): All of the Bronze Tier benefits + additional access to the games room and swimming pool, 60 min full-body massage and hydrotherapy once a month, daily morning physical and games 4x a week, personal training, movie screenings, arts and crafts twice a month, music sessions once a week.
• Gold Tier (RM2,800/month): All of the Silver Tier benefits + additional access to all facilities, extended full-body massage time and hydrotherapy twice a week, twice the frequency of all recreational activities. (NOTE: The tier perks may still be subjected to changes as it is a new programme)
