S’gor govt helped over 700 hawkers & their businesses go digital

Since August 2022, Platform Selangor (PLATS) has been organizing Selangor Micro Hawkers Development Training Programmes to help hawkers improve their businesses by teaching them digitalization skills. In its latest training session held on 27 January, 60 hawkers were taught of the importance of digitalization skills with a total of 708 hawkers across Selangor’s 12 districts benefitting from the training sessions so far.

Micro business owners get to learn multiple digital skills from PLATS

The PLATS initiative was kickstarted by Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) and Menter Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) to get micro businesses owners up to speed with the current economy’s digital landscape:

“PLATS helps provide a platform for these individuals to grow and move towards the digital world. In doing so, we are confident that these merchants, hawkers and grocers can be more sustainable in the future,” – Y.M. Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar bin Raja Salim, Chief Executive Officer of PNSB

In half-day long training sessions, micro business owners will gain knowledge on:

  • Social media management
  • Basic social media editing
  • Online ordering processes
  • Adoption of cashless transaction
  • Basic business digitalization
These sessions are typically conducted with local partners including Maybank, OCBC and EPF.

According to Y.M. Raja Ahmad Shahrir, these skills will serve as a foundation for micro business owners, and the programme is the best avenue for them to learn about digitalization of their businesses. At the end of the training sessions, participants will receive certificates as proof of their competency in the topics covered by PLATS.

PLATS will have more training sessions in the near future

Having done training in Kuala Selangor, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Kajang, PLATS will be hosting more sessions in Klang, Petaling Jaya, and Selayang in the near future. PSNB’s CEO also has plans to improve PLATS’s website to make it more user-friendly for merchants, trainers and speakers.
