Stand Up Comedian Uncle Roger cancelled in China!

Malaysian-born famous Youtuber/stand-up comedian, Nigel Ng aka Uncle Roger gets canceled by China.  The famous Chinese social media network Weibo has banned Uncle Roger – allegedly due to a video criticizing China’s so-called surveillance state as well as its policies towards Taiwan.

He is best known for roasting mat salleh cooks who cook Asian cuisine wrongly. He rose to fame with his video mocking renowned chef Jaime Oliver’s take on fried rice.

The way he speaks in his videos and stand-up comedy shows is an over-exaggeration of the Chinese-English accent. When you hear the word “HAIYA!” the one person that most probably pops into your head will be Uncle Roger.

Uncle Roger deleted his account on the Chinese social media network Weibo, where he now has over 400,000 followers. Weibo stated that the account was “currently muted” due to “violations of relevant laws and regulations.”

In the video above, we can see Ng making a mocking expression and saying, “China, good country, good country.”

He also made further allegations that the Chinese authorities utilize cell phones and communications technology manufactured by Chinese companies such as Huawei to spy on its citizens.

Is it a HE problem or a THEM problem?

While this may be the second time Uncle Roger is to be chastised, the first being in January 2021, when he worked with Chinese-American YouTuber Mike Chen, who is known for his critical views of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

It doesn’t come off as something to be surprised about as the CCP has been censoring stand-up comedies. They have been super vigilant when it comes to the content stand-up comedians put out. That being said, just recently a Chinese stand-up comedian was fined a US$2 million fine and a police probe.

Stand-up comedies were the last thing people used to bring some lighthearted jokes to somewhat pressing issues that are happening globally. But if this keeps happening, people might refrain from saying something on a public platform even as a joke.
