Kuching Groom Gets Scammed On His Wedding Day

A 28-year-old groom’s dream of starting his marital life took a horrific turn when his bride-to-be absconded on the day of their supposed akad nikah on 10 Nov 2023. He lost about RM30,000 for the wedding preparation. The so-called bride-to-be apparently was in cahoots with her father to scam. The Kuching groom met his soon-to-be bride in 2021 and got engaged to her on 12 Oct 2022 at his sister in laws place at the behest of the bride’s father.

They planned to have the solemnization ceremony on the 10 Nov 2023 and the persandingan was to be held the next day. The groom filed a police report at the Daro police station on November 10, according to Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, whom Bernama called on 13 November.

Twist of events in Kuching Groom’s life

Imagine reaching your bride’s house all excited to be married and embark on a new journey only to stumble on an undecorated house and no one there. When the groom approached the neighbor who’s also the bride’s aunt, to his shock she revealed that the bride was already married with 2 children. It didn’t end there, the bride also lied about her name.

Some on the X thread claimed that the Kuching man was being delulu.

People have been asking for proof of conversations that he had with the “bride”. But some of them came to his aid saying that the receipts that he had shown on his Facebook profile.

Upon further digging, we also found a post by the groom’s sister on Facebook, where she debunked the rumor that it’s an old story. She wrote “Did we have C*vid * years ago? 8 years ago my brother was 20 years old.”

Questions questions…

X users were curious as to how was the groom so gullible when there are so many procedures that need to be done for a Muslim wedding. The groom’s brother clarified the questions by stating that the bride claimed to have settled the procedure from her side on her own.

Netizens are quite perplexed as to how can a father be an accomplice in a wedding scam such as this. While this may sound like something right out of some sitcom, our heart goes out to the groom and his family.
