So you know how these promos usually work right? The airline will tell you the tickets are RM69 but once you add the airport tax and surcaj-surcaj yang sewaktu dengannya, your ‘promo’ price would be in the region of RM200.
But not with AirAsia’s CNY 2023 promo.
Yep, AirAsia’s promo ticket prices are all-in-one this year – meaning it’s a flat rate unless you sendiri want to include add-ons like extra baggage and food. Otherwise, you’ll only need to pay from RM38 for domestic flights and from RM69 for flights within ASEAN. But if you’re looking to go somewhere x-tra far, AirAsia X is offering flights from RM289, or for RM1,499 with a premium flatbed.
The booking period is only from January 16 – 29, for flights within the period of March 1 2023 to September 30 2023. It’s a pretty short window to take advantage of, but worry not if you don’t have a destination in mind. AirAsia came up with a pretty cute way of helping you find that perfect holiday destination in the year of the Rabbit using the wu xing (Chinese Five Elements) of Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, and Heart Metal. You can either follow your birth element or…y’know… go with the one that vibes with you the most.
Wood Rabbit – If you wanna bersantai and relax
The featured destinations for relaxation are:
- Hanoi
- Langkawi
- Hat Yai
- Kaohsiung (Taiwan)
- Sibu
- Melbourne
- Seoul
The Wood Rabbit destinations are for those who’re looking for relaxation, but with the neon lights of the city within reach. For instance, Hanoi offers shopping, museums, and roads with a never-ending stream of motorbikes that require guides for first-time pedestrians to learn how to cross; but you can also take life at a slower pace outside the city at Ha Long Bay (3 hour drive away) or wave hi to the friendly paddy farmers at Mai Chau (2.5 hour drive away).
While you might immediately associate Seoul with business, oppas, and Gangnam styles; there are actually a number of getaways in and around the city like the Yongsan Family Park that’s situated on a former American military base. If you’re looking for a more unique experience, there are a number of tourist trains like the open-window V-Train that slowly chugs over scenic valleys and hills around South Korea, or the S-Train that departs directly from Seoul.
Water Rabbit – For the Beach Bunnies
Being a beach bunny in the year of the Rabbit is pretty apt, and Water Rabbit destinations were picked for you to hop into the water without a second thought:
- Phuket
- Bali
- Maldives
- Tawau
- Nha Trang (Vietnam)
- Gold Coast
- Busan
Australia’s Gold Coast still holds its place as the country’s #1 holiday destination with 21 beaches to choose from. Funny enough, Gold Coast didn’t get it’s name from its sandy gold beaches, but because of over-inflation in their property and cost of living prices in the 1950’s. Don’t worry though, their tourism board lists plenty of free things to do while you’re there (other than the beach, which is also free).
Fire Rabbit – If you’re looking for some hare-raising adventure
If adventure is more your thing, the only safe bet you have are AirAsia’s flat-rate fees to:
- Pekanbaru (Indonesia)
- Phnom Penh
- Labuan
- Kota Kinabalu
- Makassar (Indonesia)
- Perth
- New Delhi
Pekanbaru’s tourism page describes the place as “Beautiful nature full of adventure” and takes pride in highlighting Steve King, the man who broke his own world record for the longest wave ride on the Kampar River’s famous tidal bores. For 64 minutes. Passing by crocodiles. But if river surfing isn’t your thing, you can also live out your Lara Croft fantasies by exploring the 1000-year-old Muara Takus temple complex.
If you’re looking for more variety, then New Delhi might be the place for you. You can bungee jump, see the city from a hot air balloon, go off-roading, or literally go off the road on a paramotor trike – a motorized paraglider. If not, there’s the aptly-named Adventure Theme Park, one of 6 amusement parks in the area.
Earth Rabbit – If you want to reconnect with nature
If nature is more your thing, then some nature-al choices would be:
- Sandakan
- Kuching
- Miri
- Chiang Mai
- Krabi
- Sydney
- Taipei
Mulu Caves in Miri house the largest cave chamber in the world. Located in Mulu National Park, you’ll also be enjoying forest, waterfalls, and show caves – making it the best place to get lost in the wonders of nature. Just…. don’t get lost in the caves. You can also hike up Canada Hill where you’ll get a great view of the town and see the Grand Old Lady, a monument of Malaysia’s first oil well.
Metal Rabbit – For a totally lux holiday
So maybe all that nature and adventure stuff isn’t for you. Maybe all you want is to pamper yourself in a nice hotel and walk out of premium stores casually sipping on a custom-order Starbucks frappe. Well, you can do that in these destinations:
- Singapore
- Bangkok
- Jakarta
- Hong Kong
- Manila
- Osaka
- Tokyo
Although… you probably wouldn’t be walking out with your Starbucks drink if you went to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Tokyo – one of only six in the world. Here, you can watch the roastmasters work on a 17-meter long cask that was made using a traditional copper-beating technique called tsubame-tsuiki. You can also enjoy your coffee under the sakura blossoms outside (if in season), or the hundreds of hand-beaten copper sakuras inside.
Tokyo also offers a wide range of luxury hotels, premium shopping outlets, restaurants, and cafes alongside famous districts like Akihabara, Harajuku, and Ginza for those with specific tastes. And hey, if you still want to squeeze in a little more fun, there’s always Tokyo Disneyland!
The earth isn’t flat, but AirAsia’s flight ticket prices sure are!
Whether you’re feeling Metal, Earth, or Wood; the only thing you need to be is fast in booking those tickets because these prices are only applicable between January 16 – 29. Again, these are all-in prices with airport tax, MAVCOM fee, fuel charges, and other applicable fees included:
- Domestic flights | from RM38
- Flights within ASEAN | from RM69 (nice!)
- Non-ASEAN international flights (AirAsia X) |from RM289
- AsirAsia X with premium flatbed | from RM1,499
The good news is that the travel window itself is much wider, from March 1 2023 to September 30 2023, so you get these tickets cheap cheap for a holiday later in the year or maybe go on a bunnymoon with your significant other. Click here to head over to AirAsia’s website!
