As is tradition with every major Malaysian celebration, heartwarming and tearjerker short films are on the nigh. Malaysia’s film scene is also growing, with recent and popular releases like Tiger Stripes and La Luna. So, CelcomDigi is nurturing the local film scene and pumping out that Raya content by collaborating with 3 aspiring young filmmakers! These filmmakers will direct and produce short films for Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, with CelcomDigi’s help in honing their storytelling skills and sharing their work to a wider audience.

Among the 3 filmmakers is Fabian Loo, a theatre and TV film actor best known for his work in THE Malaysian patriotic askar movie sensation PASKAL, whose film for CelcomDigi is titled Erti Aidilfitri. Next is Bebbra Mailin, a lecturer and award-winning filmmaker who earned the accolade of Best Short Film winner at the 2019 MIFFEST, whose film is titled Pulangkan Kasih. Lastly, Haran Kaveri is an independent filmmaker who already has 2 feature films under his belt, whose film will be titled Sabar, Cikgu.

All of these filmmakers were under the mentorship of Nadiah Hamzah, the co-founder of local commercial production house WayangWorks who is also an experienced, award-winning director of multiple films and commercial ads.

Based on the theme Bukalah Hati, these filmmakers will tell their own stories of acceptance, forgiveness and sacrifice through their films, depicting what Ramadan and Hari Raya truly mean. These filmmakers obviously come from diverse backgrounds, which only adds to their Raya films. These films express the importance of being open and celebrating differences in their respective films, embodying the age-old Malaysian message of cultural diversity.

If you want to be judge of that instead, you can watch these films on CelcomDigi’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
