Coway’s annual Coway Run 2023 was another runaway success

Last Sunday, over 10,000 runners took their sneakers to Dataran Merdeka for the 7th installment of Coway’s annual Coway Run. And trailing slightly behind everyone else were 3 Cilisos people who were more used to running laptops instead of running laps.

Yes that’s Dee and this writer doing the uncle walk

This year, Coway added a much more challenging 21km half marathon route in addition to the 10km competitive run and the 5km fun run. According to Kyle Choi, Coway Malaysia’s Managing Director, the venue and timing were particularly significant:

“Malaysia Day, our primary aim is to create a platform that fosters connection, understanding, and celebration of diversity. We welcome people from all walks of life, irrespective of their ethnicity, religion, age, or background, to come together and engage in this healthy and invigorating activity.” – Kyle Choi, Managing Director, Coway Malaysia

Flagged off by Coway Malaysia’s Brand Ambassador Mira Filzah and Kyle Choi, the 5km route took us from the historic walls of Dataran Merdeka to the lush greenery of Taman Tugu. Placed throughout the route were rest stop attractions that embodied this year’s theme of “Enter Our World”. There was a mist tunnel, roller tunnel and mattress maze inspired by Coway’s latest offerings – Coway Air Conditioner, Coway Massage Chair and premium mattress series and – our favorites after sweating it out – the water sprinkler tunnel and wind tunnel that represent Coway’s water purifiers and air purifiers.

But even after the finish line, there was a mara-ton of attractions which included interactive game booths, photos on giant-sized Coway products, and a celebrity meet and greet session with Mira Filzah, Daniel Fong, Elizabeth Tan, Elyn Leong, Fattah Amin, Hun Haqeem, Jestina Kuan and Soo Wincci. And, of course, the prize giving ceremony for the winners:

  • 21km Malaysian Men’s Open –  M Zalghani Hazman Akmal, 1 hour 16 minutes and 25 seconds | RM1000 cash prize.
  • 21km Malaysian Women’s Open – Chua Michelle, 1 hour 28 minutes and 15 seconds | RM 1000 cash prize.
  • 10km Malaysian Men’s Open – Nair Daren James, 32 minutes and 33 seconds | RM 500 cash prize.
  • 10km Malaysian Women’s Open –  Tan Joline, 42 minutes and 39 seconds | RM 500 cash prize.

With RM10 from each ticket sold being contributed to Coway’s CSR initiatives, the run raised RM100,000 which will be used in various environmental and social improvement activities, including the Happy Water Project, which provides clean drinking water to underprivileged communities.
