Whenever you walk into a v4pe shop, it feels like stepping into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory – you’re greeted by shelves and glass cabinets lined with dozens, if not hundreds of v4pe flavours that come in any colour you can think of. Voltbar’s latest 12,000-puff Voltbar Switch lineup alone has 50 distinct flavours, so yeah, it’ll be mission impossible to try them all.
Looking at this dizzying array of choices, you’re gonna come across some wild flavours like Solero Lime, and probably think to yourself, ‘Really meh? Sure they didn’t simply use a random name generator to make it sound fancy?’. We’ve had that exact same thought, and as it turns out, Voltbar has very kindly sent us a curated set of 10 Voltbar Switch flavours, namely:
- Honeydew
- Solero Lime
- Double Grape
- Ribena
- Rootbeer
- Hazelnut Coffee
- Yakult Original
- Strawberry Ice Cream
- Blackcurrant Lychee
- Peppermint
…and we knew this was the golden opportunity to see whether they taste like the real thing.
But before we reveal the results, a small disclaimer: this is meant for people who are already sm0king or v4ping. If you’re not sm0king or shouldn’t be sm0king, go eat a real honeydew lah. #Dontstart
Alright, on with the show…
Four Voltbar Switch flavours ACTUALLY taste like the real thing
Truthfully, we didn’t expect any of the flavours to taste like their namesakes going into this, cuz we kena a lot of times before, where the v4pes didn’t taste anywhere as good as their names suggest.
To our pleasant surprise, four of Voltbar’s flavours were actually spot on.
Solero Lime: This one in particular was virtually indistinguishable from the ice cream that we know and love. The sourness of the lime, the creaminess of the vanilla, and the cold sensation from the v4pe was *chef’s kiss*. 10/10 So-real-lo
Yakult Original: Memangs taste like a probiotic drink. Mostly sweet with a smidge of sourness, your gut bacteria might even get fooled into thinking it’s the real thing. 10/10 Yummy but not for your tummy
Rootbeer: It doesn’t quite taste 100% like the brand-name root beer we compared it to, but you can’t mistake it for anything else. It’s root beer, through and through. 9.5/10 Beery accurate
Strawberry Ice Cream: Y’all know that Maru strawberry soft serve you can get from MyNews? Not our favourite flavour, but it’s uncanny how close this flavour is to that soft serve. 10/10 Berry creamy
The other six flavours don’t taste exactly like the real thing, but…
…that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Let us explain.
Double Grape: Even though the flavour doesn’t taste like having two grapes in your mouth at once (unfortunate, we know), it does taste like grape Sugus candy. That’s a plus in our book. Sugus/10
Honeydew: Similarly, this fella tastes more like that one melon-flavoured Korean ice cream than the actual honeydew fruit. Can’t complain, really. Its fragrance is the top among ALL v4pe flavours we’ve tried. Oppa/10
Ribena: In an odd plot twist, the Ribena flavour tastes like the Ribena gummy instead of the drink. We can see this one being a hit with v4pe users who like refreshing flavours. Childhood/10
Hazelnut Coffee: Just straight coffee here, we barely picked up any notes of hazelnut, sadly. Still a solid flavour for coffee enjoyers. Kopi susu/10
Peppermint: If you’re expecting this flavour to taste like herbaceous peppermint leaves, you’ll be disappointed, but if you’re into Wrigley’s Spearmint gum, this flavour will be your jam. Mint chewing gum/10
Blackcurrant Lychee: Out of all the flavours we tried, this one was the most biasa. The blackcurrant was super in the background, with the lychee flavour taking the main stage. Laicikang/10
Similarities aside, we were spoilt for choice
Everything we’ve said so far centres around which flavour tastes the most like its namesake, but all of the Voltbar Switch flavours we tried were pretty dang good, especially Solero Lime, Honeydew and Double Grape.
If you like long-lasting v4pes, the Voltbar Switch is rated at 12,000-puffs, which will take an average person two or three weeks to finish, meaning you don’t have to keep going out to get a new v4pe.
But say you’re hankering for a new flavour just because you wanna try something fresh, it’s really easy to just pop the Voltbar Switch’s flavour cartridge off the rechargeable battery pack and stick a new cartridge on. Plus, if you’re a fan of RGB lights:
…the Voltbar Switch looks like a rave party in your hand whenever you take a puff. If you wanna see the other 40 Voltbar Switch flavours we didn’t cover here, just head on over to Voltbar’s official online store.
