Expensive Doesn’t mean delicious

In the modern day of social media, we are easily moved by beautiful photos and viral food reviews. Sometimes, just to get a sample of the food we a willing to pay a heavy price. But, do the pictures and price really do justice to the taste of the food?

For one, I have actually visited a famous Nasi Kandar spot in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and had to wait in line for almost 45 mins under the scorching hot sun. The thing is the price while was a bit on the heavier side, the taste was very biasa.

Recently, I came across a TikTok video of two travelers who claimed Ramly to be one of the tastiest burgers they’ve had. Which also inspired this article and reminded me of so many other things.

It may look fancy but it’s not

How many times have we gone to a restaurant seen a fancy name and think that we’re gonna taste something different for the 1st time but then realized that we could have got it cheaper at a hawker stall?

Sometimes a restaurant can be all fancy but that doesn’t guarantee that what comes out of the kitchen will be 100% lip-smacking! A hawker stall by the roadside could be humble, but most times it’s jam-packed with flavors.

Sometimes we don’t go for the food but the facilities

Yep. Hawker stall no plug point! Sometimes we are willing to pay extra bucks just so we can work from a cafe or Mekdi in the cool air cond that has a working plug point.

I remember going to Mekdi during my uni days just to complete my assignments. Gotta agree that the ambiance off-peak hours is quite nice to work. I guess it’s in the way they’ve set up the space.

Have you spent more than you should in a fancy restaurant and thought, “Damn, should have just gone to the hawker stall near the lorong. At least stomach would be full.”?
