G-Shock celebrates 40 years of toughness at Pavillion KL
No stranger to the wrist of many Malaysians, G-Shock had a tough 40 years in the best possible way.
First introduced back in 1983, the G-Shock has indented itself (without damage of course) in both fashion and adventure – from crossover collaborations with artistes and designers to complete protection from the elements such as the MUDMASTER series.
And to think that this all happened because its creator saw a rubber ball bouncing in a playground.
This is actually something we learnt at their pop-up exhibition in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, that’s happening from now til October 29th 2023. As part of their 40th anniversary celebration, the brand embarked on a pop-up tour across Southeast Asia, with Malaysia being the final stop.
With the theme Rooted in Toughness, you will be able to witness the creation of the pioneer G-Shock DW-5600C from 1983, as well as its transformation across the years.
For the watch aficionados out there, the pop-up also showcases their 40th Anniversary collections, including the Clear Remix series, Recrystallized series, and the G-SHOCK x Eric Haze collaboration watch!
On top of breaking expectations for durability, G-Shock is also breaking records in their collaboration with Asian music collective 88rising. The collaboration features the highest number of 88rising artists in a brand campaign, including artistes such as Rich Brian, Warren Hue, Atarashii Gakko!, Niki, and Dumbfounded.
Exclusive t-shirts featuring the collaboration are available for sale, at RM139 each. You can also pick up a book detailing the G-Shock story, published in collaboration with renowned fashion and photography publisher Rizzoli, for RM299.
So whether you’re a fan or wanting to relive the memories of bugging your parents for a G-Shock or Baby-G back in school, head over to Pavilion KL soon to see the watch in its past, present, and future.
The pop-up is at the Center Court right down the stairs from the front entrance – just look out for the iconic octagonal shape of the exhibition’s entrance, the the same shape if you view it from the top – can’t miss it!
