As Malaysians, we are familiar with how mischievous ‘oyens’ are and their erratic behaviour everywhere they go. Funnily, we also kinda grow up with another ‘oyen’ who share the same characteristics except it can talk and has an obsession with lasagna.
This particular ‘oyen’ that we all love is none other than… Garfield! That’s right, this cartoon cat made his comic strip debut in 1978 which focused on the cynical life of Garfield, his owner (Jon) and their unbothered dog (Odie).
Due to its humorous elements that were not meant to be ‘funny’, Garfield’s popularity skyrocketed throughout the years and his name is still known among Gen-Zs today especially with weird memes of him spawning all over the internet.
Celebrate this Raya season with Garfield at Pavilion Bukit Jalil
If you’re a huge Garfield fan like this writer’s sister, you get the chance to meet the icon himself. How? Well, that’s cause Pavilion Bukit Jalil is celebrating Garfield’s 45th anniversary in conjunction with this year’s raya season!
Shoppers aren’t only reliving their nostalgic memories with the popular cat but they get to explore Raya decorations accompanied with entertaining performances and activities.
“The Garfield fanbase has continued to grow over the years and we hope that these fun activities for this special event will add to the Raya festives and bring out the Garfield in everyone” – Dennis Tan, Vice President, Brand Retail Marketing of Paramount Consumer Products Asia
You’re able to meet Garfield when you spend a minimum of RM100 within the mall starting from 26 March only on Saturdays and Sundays. Don’t worry if you missed out on the session, you still can snap photos with 3 adorable sculptures and 6 different life-sized Garfield character that’s up to 8-ft tall with inspired Raya backdrops.
It’s definitely a weird combination to see a pop-culture icon and a well-known festival being celebrated simultaneously but this year’s theme is all about finding joy in celebrations together no matter where you’re from..
‘Meriah Raya’ symbolises the unity of people from different communities
The theme for this year’s Raya is to highlight the spirit of different communities coming together for celebrations. The launch of the ‘Meriah Raya’ were officiated by the Director of Package Development Division, Mr Shahrin Mokthar and other officials along with the presence of 120 kids from orphanages within the Bukit Jalil community.
Ramadhan isn’t only about fasting but it’s all about self-reflections that’s rooted within us all. Therefore, Pavilion Bukit Jalil has decided to ‘give back’ to the community by donating over 5,000 Milo packets to e-hailing riders along with orphanages and senior citizens homes surrounding the Bukit Jalil area.
However, Pavilion Bukit Jalil has become a perfect destination for celebrations because of its rising popularity among locals in the Old Klang area. The mall itself has a wide variety of shops, entertainment venues and dining options that give shoppers a comfortable experience with their loved ones.
You can also get exclusive Garfield tote bags for Raya!
Once you’re done with your Raya shopping, don’t hurry and leave just yet! You’re also qualified for a lucky draw to win these extra gifts until April 25 as long as you spend a certain amount within a single receipt below:

You can grab small bites at the foodcourt to satiate the hungry demon in you and if that’s not enough, dessert spots such as, Inside Scoop will also satisfy your sweet cravings.
