You can help low-income families by…paying tolls? Here’s how
Did you know millions of cars pass through the tolls everyday? Whether it’s for work, school or just to lepak at a friend’s place. Now Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat (ALR) has teamed up with Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) to launch Sentuhan Ikhlas, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaign aimed at helping low-income families (B40 group) with the help of MyKasih Foundation, where every toll payment made using MyDebit on ALR’s highways will directly contribute to this cause.
How does paying with MyDebit help?
Motorists using MyDebit within these 2 months period on the KESAS, LDP, SMART, and SPRINT highways can help raise RM500,000 for the MyKasih Foundation, which will support 1,000 low-income families in 5 different states by providing food and household essentials. The funds will be released in stages, with contributions tied to MyDebit transaction milestones:
- RM100,000 after 1 million transactions
- RM250,000 after 2.5 million transactions
- RM500,000 after reaching 5 million transactions
Each MyDebit transaction at tolls automatically contributes to the campaign. Sazally Bin Saidi, ALR’s CEO, emphasized the impact of small acts of kindness through everyday payments, while PayNet’s Senior Director, Azrul Fakhzan Bin Mainor, highlighted the convenience and security of using MyDebit for tolls.
A little more about ALR and PayNet
We know ALR is a private, not for profit company. Because of them, there is no more toll increase and the government doesn’t need to pay anymore until the end of the concession period. So what do they do with the money? They use the money for operations and maintenance and the remaining goes to paying back the debts so that the highways can be returned back to the rakyat.
PayNet is a national payment network owned by Bank Negara Malaysia. They are the operator for all digital payments. They worked with ALR and have enabled the MyDebit on the KESAS, LDP, SMART and SPRINT highways. They have 152 toll lanes that are equipped with MyDebit.
