The Kuans celebrate HK Cinema in their CNY music video
Malaysia’s multi-talented family, The Kuans, join forces with the Hong Kong Tourism Board for a CNY homage to HK Cinema.
Comprising of Jestinna, Mskuan, Perry, Papa Kuan, and Mama Kuan; the family brings more dong dong to the festive chiang this Chinese New Year. Inspired by their recent family trip to Hong Kong, “好運一萬年” (“My Lucky Lunar Song”) was filmed in Hong Kong and features The Kuans role-playing to their favourite onscreen characters on iconic locations that fans of HK Cinema will instantly recognize!
6 iconic HK Cinema locations and 1 iconic cameo
The video features the The Kuans being teleported to Hong Kong. Here, they head off on a nostalgic journey dressed as familiar characters from Hong Kong movies and TV series. Of course, familiar locations make an appearance as well. Here are some that we recognized:
Central Market
The Kuans dance at the staircase in Central Market – one of Hong Kong’s oldest wet markets. The staircase has appeared in several popular movie such as Hidden Blade.
Central-Mid-Levels Escalators
Known for its role in Wong Kar Wai’s Chungking Express, the location also holds a record as the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world.
Of course, Mskuan and Mama Kuan are patrolling the location in Hong Kong police uniforms, offering homage to the location’s cinematic heritage.
Ladder Street
Famous for The World of Suzie Wong and many TV dramas, Jestinna walks the iconic stairs as a TVB drama lawyer.
Lai Chi Kok Park
In this serene park, the family transforms into characters from Beyond the Realm of Conscience.
Aqua Luna/Victoria Harbor
Paying homage to Captain of Destiny, The Kuans sail through Victoria Harbour on an Aqua Luna junk boat, taking in the stunning views of Hong Kong.
Avenue of Stars
And of course, what tribute to Hong Kong Cinema would be complete without including the Avenue of Stars? It’s Hong Kong’s own tribute to icons of the industry.
The video also features a special cameo appearance by Hong Kong entertainer Wong Cho Lam. He’s known for his comedic roles and beloved presence in Hong Kong’s entertainment scene.

CNY attractions include the Night Parade on January 29th, with floats and performances along the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui, fireworks at Victoria Harbor, and tossing wishes for the year ahead onto the Lam Tsuen Wishing tree.
