Who are Spongebob Squarepants’ family members?

Spongebob SquarePants has been a household name for almost 25 years. He first made his screen debut on 1 May 1999 on Nickelodeon, The show follows the antics and adventures of Spongebob and his friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom.

Throughout the years we have watched Spongebob have crazy adventures with his best friend Patrick and his boarding school teacher Mrs. Puff. He has kept us entertained with his witty and optimistic demeanor! But, Spongebob’s circle is bigger than his friends.

Did you know Spongebob SquarePants has a family?

Though they may not appear on screen as frequently as the other characters, Spongebob does have his own family.The SquarePants are a sponge family descended from the primitive sponge as well as SpongeGar, who discovered fire with Patar and Squog. The primitive sponges most likely lived in Bikini Bottom.

The SquarePants family left the area (if they ever lived there in the first place), until SpongeBuck SquarePants settled in Bikini Gulch, now known as Bikini Bottom, as seen in Pest of the West.

Here’s the lineup of the SquarePants family.

1. Grandpa SquarePants

Grandpa SquarePants was Harold, Sherm, and Blue SquarePants’ father. He was also the paternal grandfather of SpongeBob, Todd, BlackJack, Stanley, and possibly Larry. Grandpa SquarePants is a descendant of SpongeBuck, Primitive Sponge, and SpongeGar; and one of SpongeTron’s ancestors.

2. Grandma SquarePants

Grandma SquarePants is the widow of Grandpa SquarePants and the mother of Harold, Sherm, and Captain Blue SquarePants. Grandma SquarePants, treats her grandson like a baby and does stereotypical Grandma-like things for him. She is round and brownish in color, similar to a sea sponge. She appears in the video game Employee of the Month and treats Patrick like one of her own grandchildren.

3. Harold SquarePants

SpongeBob’s father is Harold SquarePants. Harold SquarePants is a cartoon character with brown eyes, a moustache, and thick glasses. He is round and dressed in a white shirt and brown trousers that are pulled up to his stomach. He has a round head, which makes him look more like a natural sponge than SpongeBob.

4. Margaret SquarePants

She is SpongeBob’s mother. Margaret has black hair and wears a purple matchbox dress with a pearl necklace. Unlike SpongeBob, both of his parents have round heads, making them look more like natural sponges.

5. Sherm SquarePants

Harold and Blue’s brother is Sherm SquarePants. Stanley’s father is him. He is well-known for his ability to stuff a watermelon up his nose. He has the same square shape as his father, son, and nephews SpongeBob and Todd.

6. Captain Blue SquarePants

Captain Blue SquarePants is the brother of Spongebob’s father. He is round and light orange, with a blue cap and a grey beard. Captain Blue is a retired police captain who lives next door to his nephew BlackJack despite the fact that he considers him dangerous. Garnett Sailor provided his voice for him.

7. Stanley SquarePants

Stanley S. SquarePants is Sherm’s son. He was sent to SpongeBob because he couldn’t keep a job and broke everything he touched. SpongeBob tries to figure out what Stanley’s life’s purpose is. However, Stanley’s clumsy characteristics continue to cause issues.

8. Todd SquarePants

Todd SquarePants is SpongeBob, Stanley, BlackJack, and possibly Larry’s cousin, as well as Blue, Sherm, and Harold’s nephew. He appeared in The Never-Ending Stay, a Story Reader book. He was supposed to stay in SpongeBob’s house indefinitely, but he left in the end.

9. Blackjack SquarePants

This Spongebob cousin is a real bully. When they were kids, he beat up SpongeBob. Later in life, he was sentenced to prison for littering and shrank to the size of a shoe.

10. Spongebob’s Grandson

SpongeBob’s grandson appears in the episode “The Great Patty Caper,” 75 years in the future. He heard his Grandfather’s story about Great Patty Caper, but completely ignored it by playing a video game and saying, “I beat my high score.” He will resemble his grandfather, SpongeBob, but with a red hat, a lighter voice, and different clothes. Since SpongeBob is 13-33 in the series, he will be 87-109 during his grandchild’s childhood.
