We do not condone nor encourage sexual services or prostitution. This article is for educational purposes only.
It’s the oldest profession in the world: prostitution. It’s a business that does not require advertisement, yet it draws in billions of ringgit every year.
It’s also the most misunderstood, and finding insider information on Malaysian sex services is nearly impossible… unless you know the right people. So we reached out to a ‘secret friend’ named Kai (not his real name), who is a self-proclaimed ‘expert’ on local sex services, and we learned some very interesting things. For example…
1) The lowest possible sex services can go as low as RM10!
Yes, as it turns out, for the price of a typical mamak lunch, you could get yourself a lunch of, um, a different kind. According to Kai, the lowest ‘bearable’ sex service he’s ever found costs RM40-60, but it can go even lower than that:
“RM40-60 is the lowest I can go, because lower than that is just yuck, it’s very disgusting. Not just the quality of the rooms, you can actually see the guys queue up, do their sh*t, and come out. And there’s no hygiene at all, that’s like RM10-20. You can also take them into the car (called ‘drive-thru’ services) and do your business in there, GTA-style.” – Kai
On the higher end of the spectrum, there are sugar babies of course, but as we all know, those are usually the domain of the very rich. However, for those in the ‘normal’ income group, there are also some affordable luxury options:
“*Name of club* is the most ‘grand’ for ‘our’ level (people who cannot afford sugar babies). It’s like a proper gentlemen’s club; they give you bathrobes, towels. The spa (RM60) is an actual, proper spa, and in the dining area, all the food is free. It’s halal food too, which is ironic to find in a brothel.” – Kai
Oh, and yes, they do serve alcohol too.
Once you’re done with the spa, wining, and dining, the captain (local speak for ‘pimp’) will parade girls in a line in front of you, and if you see one you like, you can tell the captain and he’ll let her escort you to a private room to do the dirty. According to Kai, there are different prices depending on the girl (more on this later), but this particular premises attracts all sorts of patrons:
“If you go on the weekend, you will see a plethora of Malaysians from all walks of life. You have public servants, VIPs, horny college boys, athletes, party people… It’s like the Ritz-Carlton or Waldorf for these kinds of services. Others can imitate, but the quality is not the same.” – Kai
But how much do you pay, and what determines the charge for each girl? Well…
2) The girls’ prices depend on their ethnicity
Much like with any product/service, there’s a tier list for prostitutes as well. A says that patrons will have a variety of nationalities and ethnicities to choose from. The list Kai gave us is as follows:
- Indonesian/Filipina (RM180+)
- Mainland Chinese (RM220)
- Vietnamese/Thai/Laotian/Burmese (RM260)
- Locals (RM300-350)
- Westerners (RM350+)
But that doesn’t mean that Indonesians/Filipinas are terrible; in fact, Kai says that Indonesians provide the best conversation. It’s actually because they make up the majority of women who are willing to do this work here, hence, the abundance drives down the price somewhat. He also mentions that, like with everything, the MCO impacted the industry in a big way, and forced more locals into the trade:
“After MCO, a lot of the foreigners had to go back, so a lot of these gaps are being filled by local people. Before MCO, there were more Vietnamese and Indonesians, but now it’s more locals. And that is the main attraction, because last time locals were much more expensive, now they are selling local girl services with foreign girl prices, so a lot more people are into it.” – Kai
There are a handful of Korean and Japanese girls who offer such services as well, but…
“They (Koreans and Japanese) don’t do the other stuff like massage; if you want them, it’s purely a sugar baby agreement, and the only people who can afford them are the rich of the rich.” – Kai
The average take-home pay for a Korean/Japanese sugar baby? A cool RM20K-30K a month.
Regardless of the service, it seems that prices are dictated more by where the girls come from, rather than what service is being provided, whether it’s a club or a massage parlor. Which of course, brings us to our next point:
3) ‘Extra’ services have funny names, but they kinda make sense
Remember that (failed) experiment by our writer Jake, who called numbers of shady ‘happy ending’ massage ads on random walls in the city? The purpose of that was actually to find out what the different types of ‘extra’ services were, but unfortunately, only one number picked up. Fortunately, Kai has the low-down on what each one means. Here’s a glossary of ‘extra’ service terms (some of which we can’t reveal cos explicit language):
- GFE: ‘girlfriend experience’; you’re allowed to kiss them
- CIM: ‘cxm in mouth’; uhhh… just think of eating ice cream, but messier (most expensive service, rarely offered)
- CIN: ‘cxm inside’; when Pennsylvania gets to finish in Virginia
- Cuddle: self-explanatory
- NFJ: ‘naked fxxx job’; no rubber, all skin
As for the types of massages:
- Volcano massage: the girl drinks hot tea, spits it out, and uses the heat in the mouth for… ‘stimulation’
- B2B: body-to-body; basically rubbing their body against the customer
- Cheese massage: a B2B using a substance that’s ‘sticky, but definitely not cheese’
- Fire and ice: same as a volcano, except that the tea is still in the mouth during the act, and you have a choice of hot or cold tea
- Nuru massage: a Japanese technique that’s basically a B2B with a glue-like substance made of seaweed
According to Kai, massage parlors have a lot of rules you need to obey, like no touching and no taking clothes off etc. But if you want these things, you need to add another RM50 for each ‘rule’ you want to break.
“Always ask. If you want to touch them, ask first. Be polite about it. Never force them. If you have any qualms, talk to the captain about it. The rules are always set before, because it varies from girl to girl.” – Kai
Oh btw, Kai says there’s actually a specific neon sign that such places display to indicate that they offer such services. But we won’t tell you what that is. If you know, you know.
As for the girls who do these kinds of jobs…
4) Not all of them want to do this, but many of them are ok with it
Those working in the sex industry are people too, and the sad reality, as many of us probably are aware, is that a lot of them are forced into this lifestyle. Take Irina (not her real name) for instance, who told Kai that her tragic life situation backed her into a corner:
“It’s just a means to an end, but sometimes it never ends for them. Irina lost her job, her husband ran away with all her money and jewelry, she got into an accident which broke her hip and her leg, and she had to go to hospital and she didn’t have money to pay the bills. And then, her dad passed away, and had to take care of her mum.” – Kai
With that being said, many actually are eager to take up the job. In massage parlors especially, they can get around 60-80% of the total sales, which is why it can be an attractive job for a young lady to take up.
And yes, there are men in this line of work too. A male sugar baby can pocket around RM6,000 a night or more, depending on the sugar mama.
But with that being said…
The main driving force behind the sex trade is desperation
Like we said earlier, sex workers and their patrons are people too, and people don’t usually grow up aspiring to be in this line of work. But especially in light of rising inflation, people still have to eat, and desperation can drive someone to great lengths:
“I understand a lot of people think this kind of thing is disgusting or whatever, but you have to understand that the customers are desperate in their emotional and physical needs, and the people who provide these services are desperate in their financial needs.” – Kai
In any case, while prostitution is often frowned upon here, it’s probably not the worst idea in the world to have a bit of compassion and spare a thought for anyone who takes part in the industry. After all, it could just be someone you know.
