Malaysia’s seen a 24x increase in HFMD, but no Monkeypox cases… yet….

Just as we thought we’ve moved past the era of contagious diseases, life decided to pull a +2 on us… literally.

Not again…

Yup. In case you haven’t been paying much attention to the news lately, we’ve seen not one, but two outbreaks recently; with Monkeypox hitting several countries around the globe (not ours yet though, thank goodness), and a 24 times spike in Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) cases within Malaysia, it seems like there’s almost no end to these penyakit berjangkit.

And though many Malaysians are concerned about what’s going to happen when Monkeypox does hit our nation, the MOH outlined a few preventive measures to reduce the risk of an outbreak in our nation; which includes screening passengers at the airport (especially those who are coming from countries with reported cases) and… reactivating MySejahtera.

did you miss me?

Additionally, MOH also announced that they will also be taking steps to reduce HFMD cases in Malaysia, primarily by making sure that parents and educators are well-informed on the disease, and having frequent sanitization efforts in kindergartens, schools, and other public places– but technically that should’ve already been a norm ’cause of the co-co.

So, with over 57k HFMD cases in Malaysia and Monkeypox starting to spread across the globe, which of these do you think might pose a bigger threat, and how does it compare to C-19? Do you think we might be seeing another MCO in the works? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll above!
