Sick of your boss? Wanna go to Japan? Sign up for JobStreet’s SEEKscapes career event

Here’s a fun fact – none of the Cilisos writers have a degree related to writing. No Journalism majors, Mass Comm, or Literature in our ranks. Instead, we have Law, Medicine, Psychology, and a Forestry graduates who wanted to write and honed our now-exemplary wirting skills on the job itself.

Other than excusing our occasional typos, it demonstrates how you don’t necessarily have to work in your field of study. In fact, your field of study could serve as a basis for something that you’re more passionate in.This is what JobStreet wants to help you discover through SEEKscapes, which is a 2-day event (March 4 & 5 2023) in Sentul.

Essentially, it’s an initiative aiming to empower Malaysian youths (and not-so-youths) to realize their potential and discover their purpose through sustainable careers. The best part is that it’s not a boring ol’ job fair – it’s a straight-up event, with fashion shows, musical and dance performances, personality quizzes, great food deals AND a chance to win a trip to Japan if you sign up before March 4th.

Did we mention there’s a bunch of big names like Hannah Yeoh and Dr. Jason Leong?

Since SEEKscapes is being supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh will be the first speaker of the day with a talk about following your passion. Others in the line-up include Dr. Jason Leong, who made a transition from a doctor to being one of the pioneers of stand-up comedy in Malaysia; Caroline Wee, the VP Brand & Strategy of Tealive; Woei Hern, Head of Creative APAC of VAYNERMEDIA; and Pete Chareonwongsak, the CEO of Teleport.

As mentioned, JobStreet is aiming to provide attendees with a “fun-filled multi-sensorial event that brings discovery, fun, and food together” so these talks will be interlaced with live bands, hiphop dance crews, and a mini fashion show. Meanwhile, you can also enjoy free Starbucks, Tealive & Joybean soy milk drinks and take a personality quiz that help will generate a digital infographic about yourself, along with suitable career suggestions.

In essence, it’s like a fun weekend out except that you can also figure out your next career move or start a new career by engaging with people from Teleport, Sports Direct, Genting Malaysia, Big Bad Wolf Books and Sunway Berhad.

“We have a number of young people at JobStreet who are in their 20s and 30s, and together with the young team from the Ministry of Youth Sports, we have ensured to create a ‘must visit’ event for youths,” – Vic Sithasanan, JobStreet Managing Director
