Tourism Selangor sets bold plans to surprise ASEAN tourists in 2025

Move aside Bali, Selangor is coming for the ASEAN tourism crown. With the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2025 on the horizon, Selangor is flexing its tourism muscles in an ambitious bid to make “Visit Selangor Year 2025” one to remember. And they aren’t holding back — the goal is to reel in a whopping 8 million tourists and rake in RM11.7 billion in tourism revenue.

A menu of attractions to suit every visitor

Selangor’s campaign, aptly dubbed “Surprising Selangor,” is all about showcasing the state’s unique blend of cultural, natural, and modern attractions. Whether you’re into eco-adventures, Insta-worthy landscapes, or just stuffing your face with nasi lemak, this campaign has something for everyone.

Some highlights of the campaign include:

  • The Gombak Hulu Langat Geopark (because geotourism is apparently the next big thing).
  • SplashMania Waterpark (a paradise for water lovers and parents desperate to entertain their kids).
  • Sekinchan Paddy Fields (because green fields = green Insta feeds).
  • And let’s not forget the Sunway Resort Hotel, Nazbell Cottage, and Selangor Fruit Valley for that sweet blend of luxury and local charm.

Media, Music, and More – How Selangor unveiled its campaign

Tourism Selangor isn’t just talking the talk — they’ve gone all out with a 3-day, 2-night familiarisation trip for over 250 buyers and media reps. The trip even featured a special luncheon where local artist Aizat Amdan dropped the official campaign song “Surprising Selangor.” (Spoiler alert: it’s a bop.)

And, of course, it’s not a proper tourism launch without TRAVEX sessions (aka the B2B matchmaking hub for tourism industry pros). Selangor is banking on these sessions to generate massive sales and put the state on every ASEAN travel itinerary.

Will Selangor deliver the surprises it promises?

Why is Selangor laser-focused on ASEAN? Simple — it’s their bread and butter. In 2023 alone, over 3.2 million tourists landed in Selangor via KLIA, with 12.82% of them coming from ASEAN countries. And with the ASEAN Tourism Forum bringing together 1,000+ buyers and sellers from the region, it’s the perfect stage for Selangor to flaunt its stuff.

“As we launch Visit Selangor Year 2025, we invite travel agencies, airlines and media partners from across ASEAN to collaborate with us. Together, we can showcase Selangor’s diverse offerings through exciting tourism packages”,

The Honourable Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Selangor’s EXCO for Local Government and Tourism

Whether you’re planning a family vacay, a solo escape, or just looking for the next big thing to brag about on Instagram, Selangor is gunning to be your 2025 destination of choice. With its mix of strategic partnerships, innovative campaigns, and that classic Malaysian hospitality, “Surprising Selangor” just might live up to its name.

So, will Selangor actually surprise us? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure — they’re giving it their all.
