From pocket money to future security: How EPF’s PLKSBB inspires students to save early
For many students, thinking about long-term finances can feel a little out of reach. With lectures, deadlines, part-time work and the everyday demands of life taking priority, planning for retirement is often pushed far into the future. Recognising this, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), through the Program Literasi Kewangan Simpan Baik-Baik (PLKSBB), has strengthened its on-ground efforts to encourage the idea of saving early in ways that resonate with young people.
By meeting students where they are, PLKSBB makes financial literacy feel more approachable and relevant. The programme focuses on simplifying money concepts and highlighting how even small, regular savings can add up over time – helping students see that building a secure future can start sooner than they think.
Throughout the programme, students were invited to experience financial literacy in a more relaxed and enjoyable way. From learning about EPF and discovering other EPF services such as EPF’s Relationship & Advisory (RA) to getting themselves familiar with the concept of Simpan Baik-Baik – all the activities were designed to be hands-on, practical and easy to grasp.
Making financial literacy feel less intimidating
The programme came alive through a blend of interactive financial literacy game stations and hands-on workshops. Across interactive game stations, students explored EPF and its account options, discovered the ideal savings to aim for and got the chance to engage up close with EPF’s Relationship & Advisory (RA).
Complementing the games, creative workshops like embroidery and matcha-making gave students the chance to try something new, pick-up practical skills and learn how everyday interests can turn into something meaningful. Students who completed all the activities were also rewarded with exclusive merchandise, adding a fun and memorable touch to the experience.

The programme not only combined entertainment with creativity and practical learning in a way that resonated with students but also reached its peak of excitement with a special appearance by popular personalities such as Alif Satar & The Locos, Fahimi & Firdaus Rahmat, Kucaimars, and Emeer Bakri, which captivated students and kept the energy high.

Creative inspiration was also woven into the programme through embroidery sessions led by rising young entrepreneur BenangByNini, where students learned practical skills and gained insight into how a personal passion can evolve into meaningful income opportunities.

Content creator Irdina Hani took the stage to lead interactive matcha-making sessions – turning a popular craze into hands-on learning experience and showing students that not all trends require spending; some can be created themselves!

Preparing for life after the first payslip
The programme also supported students preparing for life after graduation. Through the Final Year Student (FYP) talks, EPF’s Relationship & Advisory (RA) team shared practical tips on building good money habits right from your first salary.
At its core, the programme continues to emphasise a simple but powerful message: Simpan Baik-Baik for the future. By breaking down financial literacy into relatable experiences, the programme helps students see that consistent saving, started early – can make a real difference over time.
