Japan Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida made his 2-day maiden trip to Malaysia since he took office in 2021. On Sunday (5 Nov 2023), he met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a bilateral discussion during which both leaders assessed the status of bilateral relations, which was followed by a luncheon sponsored by Anwar.
The visit was especially significant because it coincided with the 50th Anniversary of Asean-Japan Friendship and Cooperation this year.

In the video above by Takahashi Katsuhiko, the Japanese ambassador to Malaysia you can see PMX Anwar encouraging Kishida to take a bite of the fruit. This is the first time Kishida has tasted durian, and he can be seen saying, “It’s good,” after taking a bite.
Malaysia has been integrating some of Japan’s culture through cosplay events, Bon Odori, and Nihon Matsuri. It is heartwarming to see diplomats from Japan enjoying and experiencing our culture through food.
