Here’s the background:

Leading up to Ramadan, there was a bit of digital prodding between Rafizi Ramli and ex-PM Najib over the issue of bailing out Sapura Energy. This basically culminated in Rafizi challenging Najib to a debate, which Najib accepted like a bossku….. but only if he debated Anwar Ibrahim.

Then, on April 4th, bossku posted on Facebook that the debate was on.

Although no date has been set at the time of writing, we’d like to point out that Najib doesn’t have the best track record with debates, since he totally FFK’d Mahathir at the #nothing2hide debate way back in 2015which we were there to experience (or not experience, as the case may be). In Najib’s own defence, he claims that he was held back from attending the debate by the police at the time.

But on the plus side, it looks like the terms of the debate are finally being negotiated; Najib’s representatives recently requested that the debate be held after Raya, so as to “respect those who are fasting” and also wanted the debate to be aired live, specifically on the Malaysia Gazette.

On the other hand, Anwar simply responded that he was ready to debate anytime, noting that Najib was the one who made the challenge during Ramadhan. However, unlike Najib, Anwar wants the event to be open to all media outlets, as a part of unrestricted media freedom- Not gonna lie, we’re hoping that CILISOS gets an invite too. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Since then, both Najib and Anwar have been in a little back-and-forth about who was the one who wanted the debate to happen during Ramadhan, with both sides claiming that they’re “not afraid at all”.

So, what do you think? Will we be seeing two master debaters in action, or be disappointed with the political master baiting? Vote in the poll above!
