You will fuel safer with Shell’s convenient new app!

From the angkat, tolak, masuk, picit days of paying at the counter to contactless payments directly at the pump, technology has made the necessary obligation of filling your tank more and more convenient. So, when Shell announced the launch of their app (Links: Android | iPhone), they promised not just additional convenience but security as well.

At its base, the Shell app will allow you to make fuel payments from inside your car using your phone once your debit or credit card is linked. However, where it differs from other apps is the integration of OTP security verification, which Shell says is the first in the petromart industry. While it might seem like an additional step of mafan, it’s better than finding out that someone had taken several road trips around Malaysia using your card.

It uses GPS to determine which station you’re in

The convenience comes in with the app’s other functionalities. If you’re a true Shell fan and been collecting Bonuslink points every time you pump, you can integrate your Bonuslink card for seamless collection and redemption – and yes, it’ll work with other Bonuslink partners as well. If you don’t have bonuslink, the app will generate a new account for you when you sign up.

You can use points to redeem food and other Shell exclusives

The best feature (at least to us) is a station locator which allows you to filter Shell stations nationwide based on your needs. For instance, you can find specific stations with a surau, cafe, ATM, or EV charging; and pushing the navigate button opens driving instructions directly in your default map app.

I just want to know which stations have firecracker sausage <3

Some other situational features are the spending tracker which helps you manage your points spending, and allow you to download receipts (great if you tend to lose your receipts for travel claims). If you like getting promo deals, the app can also curate personalized offers based on your spending at Shell stations.

If you download the app now though, you’re going to be an early adopter… and that may run into early adoption problems since the app doesn’t work at all stations yet. Shell explained that they’re still in the process of onboarding all of their stations nationwide, estimated to be done by the end of September 2023. For now though, 650 stations are already on board, with more being added each day.
