Hey Malaysians, ready to make a real difference? The Terry Fox Run Kuala Lumpur 2024 is happening on Saturday, 28th September, 7.00am at Kepong Metropolitan Park, and it’s not just about getting in some exercise – it’s about funding cancer research and saving lives.
Walk, Run, or Skate – Everyone’s Welcome!
If you haven’t heard of it, the Terry Fox Run is a global event inspired by Canadian hero Terry Fox, who ran across Canada after losing his leg to cancer. His mission? To raise money for research. He covered 5,373 km before his illness forced him to stop, but his determination lives on, with runs held around the world in his honour.
This year’s run is 3.3km, but don’t worry – it’s non-competitive, so whether you want to walk, run, roller-skate, or even bring along your wheelchair, you’re welcome. It’s an inclusive event, expecting around 4,000 participants, and everyone will be sporting navy blue T-shirts with Terry Fox’s face on them.
What’s in it for you, besides helping a great cause? Apart from the satisfaction of supporting research, there will be goodie bags worth over RM100, a photobooth, and face painting for extra fun. Plus, you’ll be joined by Yang Amat Mulia (YAM) Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, Chairman of Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY), who will be officiating the fundraiser, as well as Her Excellency Jodi Robinson, the High Commissioner Designate of Canada to Malaysia.
Why you should join the cancer run
Cancer sucks – simple as that. CRMY is doing groundbreaking work on research specifically for Asians, and the money raised from this run will help them continue reducing cancer deaths. Since 2017, Malaysia’s cancer mortality rate has dropped from 8.9% to 5.7%. Thanks to research and improved treatments, every donation helps push that number lower.
“We share Terry Fox’s dream of a world free from cancer. Every donation and step makes a difference.”
Andy Khoo, CEO of Cancer Research Malaysia
