A little while ago, we were reached out to by SOS Kuching who told us about a guy in Kuching who’s been actively rescuing and caring for dogs, but now needs help because he’s been left with only 10% of his vision and he might also be losing his home.
Now if you’re feeling some familiarity, you aren’t the only one, cause it does sound a little similar to…
In case you haven’t checked out the article (you can read the full thing here), the alleged scam which we’ve named “1MDogB”, revolved around a number of “shelters” that used different sob-stories to garner sympathy and tons of donations. However, the biggest and most insane part of this entire sham was that they also created a bunch of fake people with the power of photoshop… including one “Uncle Erlang“ who went viral after calling out for help for his dogs after “getting C-19”.
And since people have grown skeptical since the 1MDogB incident and we didn’t want to be barking up the wrong tree, we decided to give Dave Lim, the guy in Kuching who needs help for his pups, a call. To which we found out that…
He is indeed real, and so is the situation he’s in.
After scheduling a (voice only) call with him and hours spent scouring his Facebook account, we can confidently say that Dave is indeed real, and he’s really been rescuing strays since 2013.
Dave has been suffering from retinal detachment for 26 years, that’s rendered him to only be able to see out of his right eye. And very recently after an accidental injury, he’s also developed a glaucoma on his good eye, which has led him to only have 10% of his vision left.
But despite suffering from vision loss, Dave has devoted himself to rescuing and caring for old, sick, and injured dogs after witnessing dogs being culled during 2017 Rabies Outbreak in Sarawak. It was at that point that he decided to move into a friend’s vacant house that they were willing to rent to him free-of-charge for 5 years, and brought along some of the strays that he’d been feeding with him to save them from a cruel fate.
And though he’s been able to live and care for his dogs for a couple of years, Dave’s tenancy agreement is due to expire at the end of this year which means that he has to look for someplace new to live. But he has one big problem: There was no place that wanted to accept both him and the 18 dogs that he had with him.
So, he decided to reach out for help but not in the way you expect. ‘Cause all he wants is…
He’s looking for people to adopt his dogs and care for them permanently.
Yep. Dave isn’t looking for money, donations, or even for someone to buy his meatloaf- he just wants some genuine kind-hearted souls to help give his doggos their furever homes, providing them with the full love, care, and affection that they need.
Since he won’t be able to bring all of his dogs along with him, he wants to get most of his dogs adopted before the tenancy agreement expires so that they won’t end up having to go back to the streets. There isn’t an adoption fee or anything of the sort, though he does have a few requirements for people who are looking to adopt the dogs:
- Adopters should be living within Kuching, or at the very least, within Sarawak. This is because pets leaving/coming into Sarawak would need to undergo a mandatory quarantine period.
- Priority will also be given to those living around the Batu Kawa, Kuching area.
- He’s only looking for serious adopters who are willing to take care of them to the end of their lives, especially since many of them are old and sick.
- This includes bringing them to the vet whenever needed, and getting them vaccinated for rabies and their core vaccinations.
- If in the worst case scenario, the dogs aren’t able to fit in well with their adopters and new homes, Dave says that he would be open to having the dogs be brought back to him instead of being dumped.
Interested adopters can reach out to Dave directly via his Facebook account, where he can be contacted through Messenger. Additionally, you can check out the full list of doggos which are up for adoption through this link, or you can click on the happy doggo pic below ⬇
