Football, samba, the Amazon, Shakira…. all these come to mind when we start thinking of Latin America. And we’re sure some of you would absolutely love to visit the continent and travel from the beaches of Brazil to the Aztec ruins of Peru.
Unfortunately, life gets in the way and many of us just don’t have the time or the luxury to visit and take in the various cultures of Latin America. *sighs* However, for those of you with Latin America on your bucket list – or if you’re from there and want a quick taste of home – you’ll be pleased to hear that the annual Latin American Festival is back in town!
It’s the tenth year they’re celebrating Latin America x Malaysia
The 10th Latin American Festival is back and will be held at Plaza Low Yat and bbpark in Bukit Bintang this Sunday! You’ll be getting Latin American food, music, culture, food, heritage, arts and craft and oh, did we mention food yet?
It’s organised by the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC) together with Plaza Low Yat and friends. This year, the Latin American and Caribbean nations that’ll be hosting the festival are Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
Of course, don’t just expect a geography lesson when you’re there laa. Every country participating in the festival will have their embassy present a taste of their culture – literally. Go there with an empty stomach okay, nasi lemak is off the menu.
But as you’re holding your plate of fajitas and salsa dip, you’re going to want to have some entertainment while chomping down your food right? That’s why each Latin American country there will also be having performances of song and dance to make you feel as tho you’re halfway across the world. This is on top of all the arts and crafts too!
The main thing you’ll probably see and enjoy tho is undoubtedly the people from all over Latin America who’d be at the event. Hear their life stories while taking part in the other activities such as face-painting, 3D photo booths, costume wears and tourism information to Latin America and the Caribbean.
There will also be raffle tickets on sale before and during the festival to raise funds, and these tickets would be your entry into a lucky draw. The grand prize? A round trip to Colombia for two courtesy of Turkish Airlines! Other prizes include gadgets, smartphones, free hotel stays and food and beverages.
Even if you don’t win any of the prizes, you can still have some joy in knowing that you would be doing some good for charity – all proceeds from the Latin American Festival will be donated to the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory that helps children with cerebral palsy.
So remember the date yeah – this Sunday, 23rd of Sept, from 11am to 6pm at Plaza Low Yat and bbpark in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. You can find out more info about their event at their Facebook page here. You never know, you might bump into your future Shakira there too 😉
